Cory Branan remembers his time in Fayetteville fondly. He remembers his apartment near the castle in Wilson Park. He remembers his shows at JR’s, back in the days he was doing about 55-60 gigs per year, a paltry total compared to what he’ll tackle in 2012.
Branan spent his formative years in Memphis, Tenn., often palling around with Lucero. And while the latter band forged an identity as a Southern rock band, Branan never found a specific genre or sound. His newest album, “Mutt,” reflects that idea. Just like a dog of mixed heritage, Branan’s sound has no specific route origin.
Branan chatted with me about his new record and his time in Fayetteville early last week. You can find my story online, if you’re a subscriber to a Northwest Arkansas Media paper or its digital products.
Branan plays Wednesday (July 18) at George’s Majestic Lounge. Admission to the 9 p.m. show is $10.
