The weekend in music, with Cody Canada and more

Posted on November 9, 2012 by Kevin Kinder in Entertainment, Tuned In No Comments

Cody Canada and The Departed

Looking for something to do this weekend? You are?

May we suggest some live music?

Just days before the Tuesday (Nov. 13) release of the new album “Adventus,” Red Dirt rockers Cody Canada and the Departed will perform tonight (Nov. 9) in Fayetteville. The Departed formed after Canada left his previous band, Cross Canadian Ragweed. The show at George’s Majestic Lounge starts after 9 p.m.

Also at George’s at the same time is a local band with a new album in tow.

Sarah Hughes Band

Local songwriter Sarah Hughes performs tonight at George’s for a CD release party celebrating a new live record. Including several tracks from previous albums and three unreleased originals, the album from the Sarah Hughes Band is called “Live: No Chaser.” Hughes and her country-rock flavored band will perform in the front-stage lounge beginning at 9 p.m. tonight.

Admission to either show is $10.

Elsewhere this weekend, the duo of Richard Smith and Julie Adams will play in an unconventional venue — the Fayetteville Underground, the art gallery on the Fayetteville Square.

Smith is a English songwriter who has called Nashville, Tenn., home for several years. Adams is a cellist with classical training who has more recently dived into folk music.

Admission for the 7 p.m. show is $15.

Rounding out the weekend are shows by legendary reggae group The Wailers, who perform at 8 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 10) at the Walton Arts Center, and Tiffany Christopher, who recently moved away but will return to her longtime home of Fayetteville for an 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. brunchtime set at Common Grounds.

What will you watch this weekend?
