The weekend in music, with Bear Colony and more

Posted on November 16, 2012 by Kevin Kinder in Entertainment, Tuned In No Comments

Bear Colony

In these waning weeks of fall, with pretty leaves still hanging on the trees, make sure you get outside and see it all before it’s gone.

One way to get out of the house, of course, is to go see some live music.

You’ve come to the right place for suggestions about that.

One option is to see Bear Colony tonight (Nov. 16).

The (mostly) Little Rock band will debut their new recording “Sad Eyes” to Northwest Arkansas fans during a show tonight at George’s Majestic Lounge. The album, released Tuesday (Nov. 13), deals with the failing health of frontman Vince Griffin’s mother, who passed away about a month ago. Admission to the 10 p.m. show is $5.

Also performing tonight is Walter Savage on an important day for him. Bass player and bandleader Savage has performed in Fayetteville for several years after a successful career as a jazz musician in San Francisco. The musician will be featured tonight from 6-9:30 p.m. at Legacy Blues in Fayetteville. During the show, friends will gather to celebrate his 71st birthday. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.

Elsewhere this weekend, Kory Montgomery plays a set tonight at Chelsea’s Corner Cafe in Eureka Springs, Kelly Road releases a new album at George’s on Saturday (Nov. 17) and Damn Arkansan takes the stage that same evening at Smoke & Barrel Tavern.

Of course, we’ve got a complete gig listing on the right side of the blog? See something we’re missing? Let us know.
