Soon in tunes: Cantus, Nov. 29 at the Walton Arts Center

Posted on November 26, 2012 by Kevin Kinder in Entertainment, Tuned In No Comments

Cantus and Theater Latte Da

If you like Christmas songs delivered in a traditional format, Cantus‘ “All is Calm” probably isn’t the show for you.

If you like them offered as part of a dramatic story, with plotlines lifted from history, perhaps it’s exactly what you’re after.

The show “All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914″ comes to the Walton Arts Center on Thursday (Nov. 29). During the production, Cantus, an all-male nine-piece vocal group, teams up with Theater Latte Da for a retelling of a real life truce that took place during World War I.

Songs both familiar and fresh enter the production, which has been touring for several years now and was also the subject of a 2008 recording.

Aaron Humble, one of the members of Cantus, chatted with me recently about his group and the power of song. Read the story here if you’re a subscriber to our newspaper or its digital products.

Also, you can watch the group perform at 7 p.m. Thursday. Tickets to the show range from $10-$25 and are available by calling 443-5600 or via the venue’s ticket office.
