The weekend in music, with Tilford Sellers and more

Posted on January 11, 2013 by Kevin Kinder in Entertainment, Tuned In No Comments

Tilford Sellers and the Wagon Burners

Is it just me, or did this weekend take its sweet time getting here?

Well, now that it has officially arrived, let’s get to it, shall we?

How about some country music?

Tilford Sellers and the Wagon Burners call their music “true country, with a little Bakersfield Sound and Western Swing attitude thrown in for good measure.” Northwest Arkansas residents will have two chances to see them soon, as the group plays at 9 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 12) at Smoke and Barrel Tavern in Fayetteville (with a $3 cover) and at 9:30 p.m. Sunday at Chelsea’s Corner Cafe in Eureka Springs ($5).

Maybe some blues instead?

Now that Leah and the Mojo Doctors and Buddy Shute have been selected as the area’s respresentatives at the upcoming International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn., local affiliate organization Ozark Blues Society is raising money to send them there. Two shows featuring the Northwest Arkansas-based performers happen this weekend: from 6-9 p.m. today (Jan. 11) at George’s Majestic Lounge and from 7-11 p.m. Saturday at Metro Italiano in Bentonville. Shute will compete in the solo/duo competition. The Mojo Doctors will compete in the Band division at IBC. For details, see www.ozarkbluessociety.org.

Or maybe some metal?

Little Rock doom metal band Pallbearer will visit Fayetteville for a show tonight at the Lightbulb Club in support of their well-received 2012 album “Sorrow and Extinction.” Tonight’s show, with local openers Fauxnz, begins about 10 p.m. with doors at 9 p.m. Admission is $6.

Elsewhere, Oreo Blue takes the stage tonight at Landry’s in Fort Smith, Space Camp will perform Saturday at George’s and Grayson Van Sickle (of Mountain Sprout) has a gig Sunday (Jan. 13) at the Pied Piper in Eureka Springs.

What’s on your agenda?
