Here are some observations and highlights from Springdale’s nearly two-hour intrasquad scrimmage Saturday morning.
- Junior running back Lucky Bannavong was absent Saturday because of a family issue, so that meant extra reps for junior Erick Mendez and sophomore Jasey Medina. Mendez has looked really good the last two big scrimmages and Medina has a ton of potential. He should be a feature back once he adjusts to varsity ball and hits the designated hole more consistently. Just listen to what coach Zak Clark had to say in the video above. High praise.

Alma and Van Buren have installed a new playing surface at their stadiums and have kept up with the progress on Twitter.
The 2015 season will be the Airedale's first on artificial turf, as they were the largest school in the state still playing on grass. Alma brings Arkansas' total to 67 high schools playing on turf.
According to Leland Barclay, a total of nine schools will have new turf this season.
The Pointers began installing their turf Aug. 4.

Bentonville, which became the first school in the country to win back-to-back MaxPreps Cup titles, was an overwhelming winner after corrections were made in the point totals. Bentonville finished with 1,202 points after originally being announced with 1,092 points in the original release.
Pulaski Academy was a distant second with 418 points, followed by Fayetteville with 404, Siloam Springs with 388 and Lake Hamilton with 332.

The start of Springdale High’s basketball season is still three months away, but it’s been an eventful summer for the Lady Bulldogs, highlighted by two players picking up offers and the hiring of former Razorback Erin Gatling as an assistant coach.
