A news release says Rep. Randy Forbes, (R-VA), contends the Air Force removed the logo several weeks ago from the Rapid Capabilities Office, which included a Latin line reading: “Doing God’s Work with Other People’s Money.” But following a complaint by the Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers that phrase was [...]

Moved to a front burner in the nation’s economic woes are all the defaults in student loans that may turn out to be the next crisis-level challenge to face America. Studies show a worrisome leap in the number of student loan defaults of late. Lots of people are just walking away from their contractual obligations [...]

Did you see where it cost Judy Robinson, of the Arkansas Forestry Commission, a two-time Most Valuable Employee” of that agency over the years, $2.88 cents to be canned(official version: laid off) from her position? Yep. You read that correctly. Pretty unbelievable, actually it’s downright shocking, that she would get her walking papers through the mail [...]

Deceptions do have consequences. I found myself scratching my head after reading the Northwest Arkansas Times story the other day about Marilyn Heifner, executive director of the Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission admitting that she fibbed about the counter offer being made for the lease and purchase of the Old Post Office building on the [...]

Glen Campbell, the “Rhinestone Cowboy,” will visit the Walton Arts Center in late April. I hope he rides in on a horse.
Arkansas native Glen Campbell may be making a last run, but he’s going at full speed as he does.
The country musician and actor was diagnosed with the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease many months ago. He then announced he would go on a final tour, which, thankfully, now includes a stop in Fayetteville on April 27. He will perform at the Walton Arts Center, it was announced Wednesday.
You can watch Campbell this Sunday (Feb. 12) as he performs at the Grammy Awards with The Band Perry and Blake Shelton. Campbell will also receive the Grammy organization’s lifetime achievement award.
Tickets to Campbell’s upcoming show at the Walton Arts Center go on sale at 9 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 16). Tickets range from $43-$79 and are available by calling 443-5600 or through the venue’s website.

Mississippi Fever
Want some blues?
A St. Louis-based blues band comprised of members with extensive histories as studio musicians, Mississippi Fever comes west for a show Saturday night (Feb. 11) at Legacy Blues. The trio’s new self-titled album was reviewed by Blues Revue magazine, earning a 8 of 10 score. Mississippi Fever performs tonight at 9 p.m. Admission is free.
Other options abound, too.
A guest at last year’s Wakarusa festival, reggae rockers Rebelution return for a show Sunday (Feb. 12) at George’s Majestic Lounge. The group’s new album, “Peace of Mind,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard reggae chart and No. 13 overall. Joining them for the 8:30 p.m. show are openers The Green and Pep Love. Admission is $15, and tickets are available at the club or through its website.
For Friday night (Feb. 10), try Big ‘Uns for George’s happy hour from 6-8 p.m. or the Heartbreaker’s Ball with Teenagers and The Plaid Jackets at Smoke & Barrel.
We’ve got a full calendar on the blog’s homepage. You can find some other ideas there.
See you at a show or two?
