Wakarusa announces stage schedule

Click here to view the embedded video. It’s going to be difficult for me to choose between Edward Sharpe, Blitzen Trapper and the Heartless Bastards, as all three play at the same time during Wakarusa. In this instance, I make the choice for you — it’s Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros singing “40 Day Dream.” Caution, the video contains some rock star language

Tonight in tunes: EOTO at George’s

EOTO Originally a side project of String Cheese Incident members Michael Travis and Jason Hann, EOTO has morphed into a touring force of its own. The electronic group uses live instrumentation to create their unique sound, which is supplemented by a light show.

Come get some Cake

Cake photo by Robert McKnight Some smart aleck music critics predicted a short run for the band Cake. They had their hit, “The Distance,” then were going away as quickly as they came. Except, 15 years later, here they remain, recording albums, hitting No

Tonight in tunes: Bela Fleck & The Flecktones @ Walton Arts Center

Bela Fleck & The Flecktones at Harvest Fest. FILE PHOTO. If you were tasked with describing Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, the only advice I could give would be to say “good luck.” Since 1992, Fleck has earned a reputation as a genre-defying innovator and a talented one at that. He and his band, The Flecktones, have won multiple Grammy Awards, including a most recently for a song contained on the 2011 album “Rocket Science.” Bela Fleck & The Flecktones The new album is the first in 20 years with the original lineup, which includes, from left, Victor Wooten on bass guitar, Fleck on banjos, Howard Levy on keyboards and harmonica and Futureman on the drumitar

Served Neat: The sounds of Straight No Chaser

Straight No Chaser The members of Straight No Chaser never expected to perform together again. They formed a collegiate group by that name, but left the a capella group to incoming students as the original members graduated and moved on with their lives. But when a YouTube video of the band became a viral success and talks of a professional reunion surfaced, it didn’t take long to get everyone back on board. Vocalist Jerome Collins chatted with me about the group, its sudden success and its song selections, which range from pop to showtunes to holiday favorites to rock ‘n’ roll.

Feeling Hot Blooded? So is the band Foreigner

Foreigner Foreigner have become the ‘Jukebox Hero’s they talk about in one of their biggest songs. In that song, a performer wants to rise to the top. And, steadily and surely, that’s what the British/American band responsible for the song has done.

The weekend in live music, with Bill Dollar and Loose Change and more

Bill Dollar and Loose Change This is a good weekend for Fayetteville, even for a city that has plenty of good weekends. Two of my favorite events returned in the span of three days, and during a week of ample sunshine, too. Last night, Tiffany Christopher provided tunes at First Thursday. Tomorrow (April 7), Bill Dollar and Loose Change provides the soundtrack for the first Fayetteville Farmers’ Market of the season
