ROGERS — Sophomore Jeb Brain’s 20-yard touchdown run and subsequent two-point conversion with 52 seconds left lifted Rogers High to a thrilling 43-42 win over Springdale High in the season finale for both teams Friday.

A last-second Springdale pass fell incomplete in the end zone as the Mounties hung on for the victory.

Rogers (2-8, 1-6) avoided a last-place finish with the win, while the Bulldogs (0-10, 0-7) dropped their 13th straight game dating back to last year.

Springdale junior quarterback Fuller Chandler threw for 348 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs back from a 28-0 deficit late in the first … Continue Reading ››

FAYETTEVILLE — A pair of onside kicks turned the tide Friday night.

Fayetteville turned two onside kicks — including one by Rogers High — into 14 points the final 4 minutes, 43 seconds of the first half as the Bulldogs defeated the Mounties 45-7 in a 7A-West Conference game at Harmon Field.

After Rogers cut the Fayetteville lead to 17-7, the Mounties attempted an onside kick but Garret Wuehler picked up the football at midfield and the senior raced to the end zone for a 24-7 lead. The kick bounced high around the 50 and Wuehler grabbed the football and outran the … Continue Reading ››

Four questions for four writers talking 7A-West football heading into week five.

1. Last week, the roundtable discussed top quarterbacks in the 7A-West. Who are the best running backs you've seen in the conference this year?

BENTONVILLE — Austin Bugos admitted he might have raced downfield a little bit faster than expected, but the ball from Chase Hunter might have been a little under thrown, as well.

It didn’t matter. The two connected for a 76-yard touchdown pass on Bentonville’s first offensive play Friday night, and the Tigers went on to post a 49-0 victory over Rogers High during 7A-West Conference play at Tiger Stadium.

“The play worked really well, and it was good to be back at 100 percent,” said Bugos, who missed the first four weeks of the season with a leg injury. “It looked for … Continue Reading ››
