Bentonville High Tigers know game's importance

MaxPreps thought enough of Friday's game between Bentonville and Springdale Har-Ber that it was listed as one of the top 10 games in the nation this week.

Tigers coach Jody Grant, however, already knew how important this game was to his team. The winner moves into sole possession of first place in the 7A-West Conference, and it could give Bentonville (4-1, 2-0) an inside track toward the league title.

"It's a big game as far as conference implications," Grant said. "We're excited about the opportunity to go down to Har-Ber and compete against a quality football team. "This is … Continue Reading ››

SPRINGDALE

Springdale controls its own destiny with two 7A-West games remaining.

Win twice and the Bulldogs (15-5, 9-3) will clinch at least a share of the conference title and the West’s No. 1 seed for the state tournament. Springdale closes the regular season by hosting Fort Smith Southside, which it beat 8-0 in the first half of conference play, then playing at Rogers, which it rallied to beat 2-1 in the teams’ first meeting.

Springdale enters the final week tied in the loss column with Bentonville, but … Continue Reading ››

Screen Shot 2016-04-24 at 5.35.39 PM SPRINGDALE A 7-0 start afforded Springdale a two-game lead in the 7A-West standings, but losses in two of the last three games have knocked the Bulldogs into a tie for first with Bentonville. The Bulldogs (14-4, 8-2) face the Tigers on Tuesday in a game that could wind up deciding the conference champion. Springdale beat Bentonville 5-0 at home in the teams’ first meeting thanks to five goals by senior Leo Araujo. A sprained ankle kept Araujo, who has a team-best 13 goals, out of a 3-0 … Continue Reading ››

Screen Shot 2016-04-18 at 1.54.24 AM SPRINGDALE The 7A-West frontrunner’s first conference loss of the year came with its top goal-scorer sidelined with a sprained ankle. Now Springdale is hoping senior forward Leo Araujo makes his return Tuesday at Har-Ber. The Bulldogs (13-3, 7-1) could’ve used his explosiveness in a 3-0 home loss to Heritage on Friday. Araujo has scored a team-best 12 goals this year, including five against Bentonville, three against Southside and the only goal in the Northside win. “We got good news from the doctor and he’s doing well, so … Continue Reading ››

SPRINGDALE

Leo Araujo entered 7A-West play with two goals scored this season. Since, he’s scored 10 in six games.

The senior forward has provided a spark for the first-place Bulldogs (12-2, 6-0), which have won seven straight and are a win Tuesday against Rogers away from a perfect first half of conference play and what would be at least a two-game lead heading into the second half.

Araujo’s latest big game was a hat trick in Friday’s 8-0 win at Fort Smith Southside. But he wasn’t alone. … Continue Reading ››

SPRINGDALE

Junior David Portilla scored goals in each of Springdale’s first three conference wins. Then senior Leo Araujo erupted for five goals in an impressive 5-0 victory over Bentonville on Friday.

The offense has come from different places, but a stingy defense has been a constant — Springdale has outscored opponents 14-2 in a 4-0 start to 7A-West play that has earned it sole possession of first in the conference.

Bentonville threatened numerous times on Friday, but Springdale (10-2, 4-0) found ways to keep the Tigers off … Continue Reading ››

Cabot's Panther Arena during the 7A state tournament.

CABOT — I’d made it about 15 miles down I-49 on Wednesday morning when it hit me — I’d left my laptop at home.

My first thought as I took the West Fork exit and turned back around: I’m not going to make it to Cabot by the time the first game of the 7A state tournament tips off.

My second thought, immediately after: This seems like a terrible omen for how the rest … Continue Reading ››
