School Embraces New Students

FARMINGTON — Williams Elementary School embraced two new students this year that other schools may have viewed as an almost impossible challenge.
The girls came from China and were adopted by a Farmington couple, Travis and Velleta Scott. The challenge was meeting the girls’ physical disability. Both are visually impaired.

LINCOLN — Letha M. Johns, 98, of Lincoln died May 19, 2009, in Fayetteville. She was born May 30, 1910, in Retrop, Okla., the daughter of Bennett Arthur and Pearl Dodgion Miller.
She was a member of the Summers Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Johns.

Young Civil War Soldier Memorialized

Clem S. Kirksey, a Confederate soldier who was killed in the battle of Prairie Grove December 1862, was finally given a proper ceremony and memorial headstone at the Prairie Grove Cemetery about two years ago. Cecil Kirksey, a relative from Oklahoma, erected it in the soldier’s honor.
